As a result, the majority of our staff are hybrid and work both from home and onsite. Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of two days each week, every Tuesday and one other day, to be determined by their business unit. Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager.
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
CAI seeks to inform, educate and enlighten our audience on both the news of the day and the news in historical context through in-depth, high-quality journalism using the best tools and methods of the craft. The Cape and Islands NPR Stations CAI, WNAN and WZAI are GBH's NPR Stations based in Woods Hole on Cape Cod. These radio stations broadcast news and information programs from NPR, PRI, the BBC as well as award winning locally produced content.
JOB OVERVIEW
CAI is looking for a dynamic journalist to host Morning Edition. The Host will serve as the local voice during mornings and will bring together elements of a local newscast, locally produced features, and live or pre-taped interviews. This position will report to the Executive Editor.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The ME host is expected to write sharp, succinct news copies on a deadline and maintain the audience's confidence through clear voicing with personality as well as authority.
The host will handle all program continuity for use throughout CAI's programs.
The host will partner with digital producers to craft content for web and social and will participate in community engagement events. This includes full participation in CAI Radio's on-air pledge efforts.
Engineer the board during the broadcast.
Occasional reporting for local stories.
SKILL SET
Breaking news experience and public radio experience are helpful.
A working understanding of public radio content, approach, and style.
Strong writing and interviewing skills.
Ability to meet tight deadlines and work independently and as part of a team.
Strong audio production and digital editing skills with audio editing software, including field reporting.
Proficiency in using computer software, internet skills, familiarity with broadcast and web news CMS systems (NewsBoss), and an overall high degree of technical comfort and competency.
Must be highly organized and able to manage multiple projects, edit/update stories, and help to train others. Strong understanding of public radio style, values, and ethics.
Must be a self-starter and able to work collaboratively with small staff.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required. Minimum of two years' experience in radio, television, or print/digital journalism experience.
