Claims and Risk Management Specialist - Hybrid (Finance)

In this role, you'll coordinate non-litigated claims (including donor-related incidents, auto, property, and more), manage our Certificate of Insurance program, and provide key support across our risk management efforts. Your work will help ensure that Vitalant, along with our subsidiaries and affiliates, can continue to serve communities safely and effectively every day.

Location: This position will work in the Scottsdale, AZ National Headquarters 3 days a week and work from home 2 days a week in a hybrid work environment.

As a Claims and Risk Management Specialist, you'll get to:
  • Serve as the main contact for donor-related injury claims, working closely with internal teams and insurers.
  • Oversee submission and management of non-litigated claims, including workers' comp and auto, ensuring accuracy through coordination with TPAs.
  • Track and monitor claims related to donor injuries, transfusion events, workers' compensation, auto, and property.
  • Administer the Certificate of Insurance (COI) program, ensuring compliance and resolving discrepancies.
  • Assist with annual insurance renewals by gathering underwriting data such as loss runs and exposure reports.
  • Enter and track workers' comp incidents in relevant systems and notify carriers in a timely manner.
  • Prepare acknowledgment letters for injured employees and coordinate follow-ups with staff to support resolution.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of risk dashboards, trend analysis, and reports.
  • Assist in developing training materials and risk-related communications for internal stakeholders.

Requirements

Knowledge/ Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Licenses/ Certifications
  • Associate in Claims (AIC) designation or other risk/insurance designation preferred.
  • Associate in Risk Management (ARM) Certification preferred.
Experience
  • Three years of experience in risk administration, claims management, or insurance related role required.
  • Experience working primarily with insurance or risk management in a corporate or nonprofit healthcare setting preferred.
  • Experience with Origami, QMS, or similar claim management database preferred.
Skills/ Abilities
  • Proven organization and time management skills with excellent attention to detail and the belief that no task is too big or too small.
  • Superb customer service and communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally in writing and verbally across all levels of the organization and with customers and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent relationship builder, able to demonstrate a high level of tact, discretion, diplomacy with all internal and external stakeholders, and ability to maintain confidential/sensitive information.
  • High level proficiency in computer and software skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to compose and edit well thought-out professional correspondence.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Effective in working objectively with a diverse group.
  • Resourceful, strategic problem-solving ability with a fun positive "can do" attitude.
  • Demonstrates initiative and strives to continually improve processes and relationships
