Codfather Story Editor (Creative Design)

As a result, the majority of our staff are hybrid and work both from home and onsite. Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of two days each week, every Tuesday and one other day, to be determined by their business unit. Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

GBH's Digital Content Team provides GBH's production, journalism and business units with strategic guidance, audience development support, digital content production and support for disciplined experimentation for all of the above. The team is a dynamic, versatile group of digital producers with skills in digital video, podcasting, social media, email and website content development.

JOB OVERVIEW

As Codfather Story Editor, you'll serve as the creative backbone of our series production, from initial concept through final publication. You'll drive story development, and ensure consistent quality and voice across all episodes of "Codfather” (w/t).

RESPONSIBILITIES   

  • Guide/sustain editorial processes for season and episodes

  • Create and edit episodes that follow the theme, format, and overall direction of the series

  • Review scripts prior to narration tracking; review and edit structure; write as needed

  • Develop segment ideas or series concepts

  • Deliver compelling narration, enhancing storytelling and audience engagement with a clear, professional, and dynamic voice

  • Collaborate directly with Codfather series host on story direction

  • Work with GBH Newsroom editor to ensure editorial alignment

SKILL SET

  • Ability to craft compelling narratives specifically for audio, writing conversational content that engages listeners and paints vivid pictures through sound

  • Strong skills in developing clear episode roadmaps with engaging intros, logical content flow, smooth transitions, and powerful conclusions.

  • Thorough research capabilities combined with sharp editorial instincts to ensure accuracy, identify compelling story angles, and refine narratives for maximum impact.

  • Proven ability to work effectively with hosts, producers, and newsroom editors while incorporating feedback and clearly communicating creative direction

  • Expertise in ruthless editing to eliminate redundancy and create tight, professional content that maintains listener engagement throughout.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience required.

  • A minimum of 5 years editing high quality audio content.

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines while maintaining quality standards.

  • Desire to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work various shifts and times, including evening and special events as needed.

  • Experience with series-based or narrative podcast production preferred.

  • Familiarity with public media or educational content production preferred.
