Professor of Practice - Voice and Vocal Pedagogy (Finance)

Description:

The Moores School of Music at the University of Houston seeks candidates for a non-tenure track Professor of Practice in Voice and Vocal Pedagogy with appointment beginning Fall of 2025. This role is designed for a highly qualified practitioner-scholar with a significant record of professional performance, teaching excellence at the university level, and pedagogical innovation. The successful candidate will contribute to both the applied voice studio and academic instruction in vocal pedagogy and diction at undergraduate and graduate levels. Tenor voice type preferred, but all voice types will be considered.

Primary Responsibilities
• Teach Applied Voice to undergraduate and graduate students.
• Teach Vocal Pedagogy at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Teach Lyric Diction and related topics as appropriate.
• Lead Practicum courses, including coaching and directing as needed.
• Mentor doctoral students through independent studies and pedagogy research.
• Contribute to and prioritize interdisciplinary arts education as part of a college-wide commitment to meaningful artistic connections between disciplines.
• Establish and maintain a national/international profile as a pedagogue, clinician, and performer, with particular emphasis on leadership in the field of vocal pedagogy, leading to top-tier national and international publications and presentations.
• Participate in curriculum development and student recruitment.
• Engage in service to the voice area, school, university, and profession through committee membership, connections with area EC-12 schools, and/or outreach programs.

Qualifications

Minimum
• Doctorate in Vocal Performance or a related field (ABD considered, but completion of the doctoral degree is required by the start of Fall 2025 semester)
• Strong studio and academic teaching record at the university level, demonstrating the ability to support students with a broad range of backgrounds and interests.
• An active professional performance career in opera, concert, or recital settings.
• Strong record of publications, recordings, and scholarly presentations in vocal pedagogy and performance.
• Demonstrated excellence in interdisciplinary collaboration and public outreach.

Preferred
• Tenor voice type
• Proven success in graduate-level instruction and mentorship, particularly with doctoral students in the vocal pedagogy track.
• Extended training and education in vocology and software-based voice analysis tools.
• Experience with summer music programs, including teaching, directing, producing and curriculum design for singers at all levels.
• Commitment to collaboration, creativity, and collegiality in an active and highly successful school of music.

Salary
Salary and benefits package is competitive and commensurate with credentials. Initial appointment is three (3) years, after which the faculty member may be eligible for reappointment.
