Construction Inspector (Finance)



The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech has an opening for a Construction Inspector/Observer whose primary duties include inspection and observation of water and sewer utility construction in and around Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

This position is responsible for observing, inspecting, and documenting construction activities and will be under the supervision of the Project Engineer or Manager assigned to each specific project. The position will assist the engineers, managers, and construction administrators as needed to ensure the projects are constructed in accordance with the contract documents. Typical projects include 8 to 16 hours per week of onsite observation. Project construction schedules may overlap. This is a 6-month position with the possibility of extension based on project needs.

Your Role:

  • Coordination with Contractor for ongoing activities and scheduling of site visits.
  • Preparation of Daily Observation Reports
  • Site visits, in accordance with specific contract schedule, to observe and record Contractors progress, pertinent site conditions, and document actual site conditions.
  • Review the Contractor's construction sequence and traffic control plans for all construction work undertaken simultaneously.
  • Confirm Contractor has contacted utilities in the general construction area and assist in the coordinating of utilities activities to minimize conflicts with the City's and Contractor's activities.
  • Visually inspect materials, equipment, and supplies delivered to the worksite. Reject materials, equipment, and supplies that do not conform to the Construction Contract Documents.
  • Coordinate and observe onsite materials testing services during construction.
  • Observe field tests of equipment, structures, and piping, and review the resulting reports.
  • Accompany visiting inspectors representing public or other agencies. Record the names of the inspectors, and the results of the inspections.
  • Monitor Contractor progress in relation to the accepted construction schedule and report deficiencies or concerns.
  • Assist in Pre-Final Inspection, punch list resolution, Final Inspection, and Certificate of Completion, Certificate of Occupancy.
  • Observe start-up and testing.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of construction observation or inspection experience, preferably with water/sewer utility projects
  • Familiarity with municipal contract documents, construction sequences, and traffic-control plans
  • Knowledge of field-testing procedures and materials-testing protocols
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and professional daily reports
  • High attention to detail and ability to work independently in a fast-paced, outdoor environment
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
  • Flexible availability for a part-time schedule (typically 8-24 hours per week onsite)
  • Based in the Oklahoma City area
  • Ability to use a personal cell phone for work communication, if needed
  • OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety Training preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • This position may require protracted or irregular hours depending on the season.
  • Traverse over rough terrain, and constantly position self to operate miscellaneous survey equipment.
  • Occasionally ascend/descend ladders into trenches or onto roofs when inspecting construction and land development sites.
  • May be subject to exposure to extreme outdoor weather conditions, hazardous materials and chemicals, heavy construction equipment, confined spaces, heights, and air and waterborne pathogens.
  • May handle and move items up to 50 lbs for various needs.
