Regional Director of Spiritual Care Hospice (Personal Services)



Position Summary
The Regional Director of Spiritual Care serves as the lead chaplain for the Hospice Division, providing strategic leadership, oversight, and direct support to ensure that spiritual services are integrated into holistic hospice care. This role is accountable for the delivery of compassionate, patient- and family-centered spiritual care, while also supervising and holding chaplains accountable to organizational Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

The Regional Director participates in interdisciplinary team (IDT) meetings, collaborates with clinical and supportive service leaders, and ensures compliance with regulatory standards, organizational goals, and patient satisfaction expectations. This position operates within the RACI model to ensure clear communication and transparency. This role will be responsible for additional duties and assignments as the Hospice Division develops.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Accountability
Provide direct leadership to all chaplains across the hospice division.
Establish clear expectations, monitor performance, and hold chaplains accountable to KPIs.
Collaborate with the VP of Hospice to ensure spiritual care goals are aligned with divisional strategy.
Mentor, support, and develop chaplains to foster professional growth and spiritual leadership.
Clinical & Interdisciplinary Integration
Actively participate in IDT meetings, providing input on patients spiritual and emotional needs.
Ensure chaplains consistently document spiritual assessments, interventions, and care plans in compliance with CMS requirements.
Promote integration of spiritual care into patient and family care, ensuring collaboration with nursing, social services, and volunteers.
Patient & Family Care
Ensure chaplains provide timely, compassionate, and respectful support to patients and families of diverse faith traditions, cultures, and belief systems.
Promote spiritual support that enhances dignity, peace, and quality of life at the end of life.
Respond directly to complex or escalated patient/family spiritual needs as required.
Bereavement Services (CMS Required)
Supports and participates in bereavement assessments and plans of care for families and caregivers, extending a minimum of 13 months after the patients death.
Supports MSWs with timely follow-up, counseling, support groups, and resource referrals for grieving families.
Supports CAHPS and satisfaction data related to bereavement and implement strategies for improvement.
Compliance & Quality
Ensure all chaplains comply with Conditions of Participation (CoPs), documentation standards, and agency policies.
Partner with QAPI teams to incorporate spiritual care into performance improvement initiatives.
Monitor SHP, CAHPS, and patient satisfaction metrics related to spiritual and emotional care.
Collaboration & Communication
Partner with the Director of Social Services and Director of Volunteers & Bereavement to provide coordinated support for patients and families.
Ensure transparency and communication with executive and regional leadership regarding the effectiveness of spiritual care services.
Represent spiritual care in organizational meetings, training, and community outreach initiatives as needed.
