Transportation Manager (Project Management)



Job Overview:
To serve as one of the transportation department leaders. Overseeing the operation of department functions. Maintaining, creating and enforcing departmental and company policies as needed. Training and working with department personnel in the functions of their respective jobs. Work closely with the Director of Transportation and the Director of Safety and Compliance to ensure legal operations of the department as applicable to state and federal laws.
Expectations:
Leadership and management of transportation supervisors to achieve company performance goals. Work closely with transportation supervisors to train and develop their skills. Support them in project management and oversee company metrics to maintain service, profitability and safety.
Review and assist with weekly/monthly schedule while overseeing driver hours to maintain company goals.
Lead the annual performance and salary reviews process to ensure all are being completed correctly and timely.
Hire, train, develop and inspire team for continuous improvement and results.
Document and streamline work progress for increased effectiveness and efficiency.
Review driver returns and identify areas of opportunity for improvement.
Support company goals and initiatives.
Work closely with transportation supervisors, Director of Transportation, and the Director of Safety to provide a safe workspace for drivers, employees and customers.
Mentor transportation supervisors in skill development, seeking assistance and sources as it relates to safety as needed.
Monitor Samsara for operational/driver issues and communicate with the team as needed.
Identify opportunities for improvement and ensure company policies are being followed as they apply to the department.
Perform remedial and disciplinary actions as needed and within company policy.

Overall support and assistance in transportation related issues while helping the department grow with leadership, guidance and knowledge.
Assist with scheduling of supervisors and identify opportunities to improve KPIs in critical areas. (Returns, safety, and route efficiency.)
Be proficient in all software used in day-to-day operations
Travel to remote locations as needed/directed to support the transportation team.
Be an active member in departmental meetings and share ideas that lead to department and company growth,
Job Duties:
1. Attending meetings with the Director of Transportation on a regular basis for updates and progress on company initiatives.
2. Understand and incorporate the principles of servant leadership daily
3. Review schedule/completion of employee evaluations for timeliness
4. Assist in maintaining Teams channels and the information contained within them
5. Monitor and provide Director with necessary information that may impact delivery schedules. i.e weather/equipment/illness
6. Assist in identifying performance issues and work with supervisors to resolve/improve
7. Work with the Supervisors on the training of all new department personnel to ensure fair and complete training is provided, adjusting schedules as necessary
8. Interact with all company leadership as needed, attending meetings as necessary
9. Work with the Director of Transportation to review, create, modify department policies as needed, stay abreast of changes in the industry and best practices
10. Assist with growth planning and hiring as directed
11. Serve in the role as Director of Transportation in absence thereof
12. Make forward thinking proposals as deemed necessary
13. Communicate daily in either verbal or written form any concerns or problems to Director
14. Meet with Transportation/routing team and discuss possible route changes as needed
15. Collaborate with the routing manager in the analysis and review of routes for changes to increase customer service and/or better utilization of manpower and fleet (New routes, turning one route into two, etc.)
16. Accept direction and assignment from VP of Operations as necessary
17. Interact and cooperate with all Martin Brothers employees in a professional manner
18. Assist in any other duties as assigned
