Sr. Consultant – Financial Strategy & Operations, Omnium Transformation (Finance)

Summary: Creates strategic financial reporting and analysis across the Omnium technology platform - including software developer and business operations teams' development costs, IT support costs, and IT infrastructure. This individual will be a key member of the Omnium Transformation team with significant exposure to senior executives, tasked with providing financial, analytical, and decision-making support for strategic decisions.

Omnium Platform: Northern Trust Corporation announced in January 2018 that it had reached an agreement with Citadel to bring Omnium® technology development in-house - including a team of key development professionals as well as software development rights for its Omnium® technology platform. Today, the Platform delivers business-critical technology to sophisticated global asset owners and managers with over $800 billion in combined assets.

Primary Responsibilities:

Financial Analysis

  • Creates accurate analysis and reporting through attention to detail and in-depth business understanding. Knows the numbers inside and out and is able to comfortably speak to the data with stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Works with Transformation Team and Omnium IT leaders to connect development spend to roadmap to convey progress against specific business goals.
  • Produces and presents monthly financial reporting packages for the Omnium platform, analyzing total portfolio spend, platform allocations, and expense variances to inform senior leadership and support data-driven decision making
  • Manages and forecasts annual operating expense budget, conducting variance analysis across different line items, invoices, and any other cost components to ensure alignment with strategic financial targets
  • Builds and maintains financial models to project annual capital project spend, optimizing and informing workstreams and project-level investment decisions
  • Forecasts ongoing operating and capital spend using in-house financial systems and tools, ensuring accuracy across reporting cycles and supporting strategic financial planning
  • Assists with vendor management, providing supporting data to ensure contract terms align with business needs, financial targets, and strategic priorities
  • Tracks and analyzes developer capacity, providing leadership with insights into resource utilization and productivity trends

Annual Planning Cycle

  • Supports annual planning by helping to author and present capital investment business cases (discounted cash flow analyses, IRR, payback) to the enterprise capital committee and other internal stakeholders
  • Works with leadership of the COO, Asset Servicing, and IT organizations to create annual financial plan

Project Management & Process Improvement

  • Works with key stakeholders within and outside of the COO organization to analyze opportunities to improve financial performance of the Omnium platform
  • Passionately looks for and pursues improvements to data quality, aggregation, analyses, and reporting for monthly, annual, and ad hoc processes. Approaches challenges by embracing new technologies and collaborating with team partners
  • Strives to adopt or create efficient financial models and reporting outputs to various stakeholders for maintenance sustainability.
  • Manages execution of improvement projects by creating clear plans, holding yourself and the team accountable to milestones and deliverables, and providing transparent communication to leadership and stakeholders

Skills & Experience:

  • Ability to present information in a concise, intuitive format focused on key takeaways and actionable recommendations to leadership. Experience preparing and presenting complex financial or data focused information to stakeholders and senior leadership is preferred
  • Positive, self-starter who embraces opportunities to improve processes
  • Superior skills with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBI, SharePoint) and q uick to learn and master new tools
  • Comfortable with financial systems, large data sets and integrating data from multiple sources
  • Knowledge of Northern Trust's Finance and Accounting practices and/or Asset Servicing is a plus
  • Familiarity with cloud computing, technology infrastructure, and software development is a plus
  • 5+ years of experience, with an emphasis on financial analysis/modeling and planning/forecasting (FP&A) and project management
  • A 4 year College or University degree is strongly preferred.

Salary Range:
$83,100 - 141,300 USD

Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
