Director-Operations & Fabrication (Treating) (Finance)



Position Description

Kinder Morgan Treating is a leading manufacturer and the largest provider of contract operated natural gas treating plants in the United States. We design and build treating and processing plants to ensure that natural gas and liquid hydrocarbons conform to sales pipeline specifications and downstream markets. Kinder Morgan Treating, located in Odessa, TX (KTMO), is a leading manufacturer and the largest provider of contract-operated natural gas treating plants in the United States. We design and build treating and processing plants to ensure that natural gas and liquid hydrocarbons conform to sales pipeline specifications and downstream markets.

Primary purpose:

  • The Director of Operations will:
    • Oversee our gas-treating equipment fabrication facility's day-to-day fabrication operations and fabrication activities of our gas-treating equipment fabrication facility to ensure our products meet or exceed customer requirements and comply with all project specifications, drawings, codes, standards, and regulations.
    • This role requires a strategic leader with a strong background in fabrication, supply chain management, team leadership, and final product delivery.
    • Director of Operations and will ensure all fabrication projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
    • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and quality control team members to manage project timelines, resources, and deliverables to meet project requirements.
The Director of Operations reports to the General Manager and is responsible for all Operations and fabrication activities associated with KMTO's fabrication operations within the Kinder Morgan Treating Group including, but not limited to, safety performance, facilities operations, and maintenance, regulatory compliance, budget preparation and stewardship, personnel matters, training compliance, emergency response, gas processing equipment and vessel fabrication project oversight, production scheduling and inventory control

Operations:
  • Deliver strong site health, safety, and environmental performance every day. Has the authority to obtain all resources necessary to minimize environmental impact
  • Ability to manage multiple, complex projects and changing priorities, make sound decisions, and work effectively in a team environment
  • Through collaboration with cross-functional teams, you will prioritize workload, drive continuous improvement, and increase productivity while adhering to all safety standards
  • Drive the work processes and standards to ensure the highest production productivity and quality
  • Maintains a current working knowledge of regulatory and company operating requirements and coordinates activities with regulatory agencies, other company departments, customers, the General Manager, and Senior Management
  • Directs KMTO's performance to meet or exceed all safety, budgetary, and efficiency goals and commitments and ensures alignment with corporate goals, including Kinder Morgan's Operational Excellence initiative
  • Ensures alignment with the corporate, business unit, region, and division goals and objectives
  • Develops and stewards manager/employee development to changing staffing needs for operations
  • Prepares and maintains various reports, records, and other documents concerning maintenance and operations issues, expense management, safety & regulatory compliance, and employee administrative issues
  • Ensures all assigned employees are familiar with manuals, policies/procedures, and technical standards
  • Promotes and stewards division operations & maintenance budgets. Oversees and administers approved budgets
  • Actively promotes all Corporate and HR initiatives and ensures compliance in all recruiting, promotional opportunities, and the discipline process
  • Regular and predictable attendance

Position Requirements

Minimum requirements:
Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Engineering or Operations Management
  • Minimum of 5 years management experience (including Manufacturing Leadership experience)
  • Minimum of 10 years of thorough working experience/knowledge in gas treating equipment manufacturing (amine treating, glycol dehydration, natural gas stabilization) and fabrication operations, basic hydraulics, metallurgy, and welding procedures, regulatory compliance standards, contract administration, quality control, and emergency response/ incident command
  • Knowledge of ASME codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31.1, ASME Sec. VIII, Division 1)
Certifications, licenses, registrations:
  • A satisfactory driving record as determined by the Company and a current, valid State driver's license are required
Competencies, skills, and abilities:
  • Experience in Six Sigma and Lean Enterprise methodologies
  • Must demonstrate effective leadership capabilities, initiative, and self-motivation
  • Must be able to accept direction and supervision and work effectively and cooperatively with all personnel and customers
  • Ability to lead and manage people in maintaining, changing, and/or improving performance in the area of safety, operational excellence, and risk reduction
  • Ability to effectively communicate using both oral and written forms of communication to internal and external parties
  • Effective reading and computer skills
Working conditions:
  • The regular work environment is typically in an office and the fabrication shop floor. However, work will often require the director to be outside at facilities and exposed to extreme heat, cold, and inclement weather, 10%-25% may involve computer-related activities
  • Work inside and outside, and very minimal travel to headquarters offices or a customer's site
