Main Objective:

To oversee the pilot manufacturing department, ensuring timely management of launch of new products and processes from initial production runs through readiness for manufacturing at scale.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Engineering, Project Management, Operations and Training teams to establish and manage a Pilot manufacturing area
  • Identify knowledgeable and adaptable staff members to contribute to launch and iterative improvement of new processes and products
  • Monitor and report on performance of product launches, including risks and readiness for full-scale launch in production
  • Partner with OpEx teams to optimize processes and layouts prior to full-scale launch
  • Provides detailed daily communication to managers and fellow supervisors via channels such as email, workfront, sharepoint, etc
  • Sets overall operational direction and performance for area of responsibility for all shifts
  • Leads performance appraisal process for area of responsibility
  • Recommends proper staffing levels based on production needs for area of responsibility
  • Monitors production plan by consistently meeting daily production schedules and reports status
  • Provides proper and timely training of staff
  • Recognizes and addresses process problems regularly; works with engineering to implement sustainable solutions
  • Ensures proper communication between shifts and crews covering production status, backorders, quality, safety and other production issues
  • Reviews, counsels, evaluates, disciplines, hires and discharges employees with the assistance of HR
  • Ensures compliance by all employees to policies and procedures
  • Stays current with ISO/FDA and internal quality assurance policies

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (strongly preferred) or an Associate's Degree with related experience. Non-degreed candidates with direct experience in a FDA regulated industry will be considered
  • 5 years of manufacturing experience required, preferably in a medical device or textile manufacturing environment
  • 3 years of supervisory experience required, five or more preferred
  • Experience with computerized manufacturing system is preferred (Oracle, SAP, etc.)

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

  • The ability to prioritize, work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple tasks, and work under time constraints
  • Requires computer knowledge of Windows
  • Able to communicate effectively, in both written and verbal formats, using spoken and written English
  • Must have leadership skills and be able to effectively supervise and motivate team members
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, and / or schedule form

Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:

Textile manufacturing equipment, manual and light machine-assisted assembly experience.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
