Gallery Operations Intern - Fall 2025 (Manufacturing)



INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION: 

The Gallery Operations Intern will support the Interpretation Operations team at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis by contributing to the planning and execution of exhibit-related educational activities. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity for students interested in museum operations, logistics, and behind-the-scenes exhibit support to gain meaningful experience within a fast-paced and engaging environment. The intern will assist with researching and sourcing props and costumes, identifying opportunities to streamline processes, and enhancing organizational efficiency. In addition, the intern will play a key role in preparing for WinterFaire 2025, helping with the organization and distribution of materials. This role is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the operational side of exhibit interpretation, emphasizing creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Updating current links to costume options for the 2025 WinterFaire Cast.
  • Assisting with the distribution of incoming costumes, props, and supplies for various programs.
  • Researching costumes and supplies for upcoming exhibits in 2026.
  • Operational posts in Interpretation, such as Playscape Greeter, Ferris Wheel, and exhibit maintenance walks.
  • Other tasks as assigned, and interested in

REQUIREMENTS:

This internship offers a valuable learning experience for students across various disciplines. Preferred fields of study include Theater, Museum Studies, and Operations-focused programs. Key qualifications include:

  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to take initiative, think creatively, and problem-solve
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel and Word
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines
  • Enthusiasm for new experiences and learning opportunities

 

ADA REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for up to one hour at a time.
  • Must be able to work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Must be able to tolerate busy, crowded environments.
  • Must be able to speak clearly and confidently with museum guests and provide excellent customer service to both internal and external constituents.
