Field Technician II – Entry Start Up (Finance)



PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Provide on-site testing, commissioning and customer/operator training for EPG Sales projects including coordination & execution of equipment start-up, acceptance testing, and final project closeout. Provide technical assistance to the prime product sales staff and the product support staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Technicians must adhere to all company safety policies (i.e., EPG Safety Policy, Company Vehicle Policy, and others).
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external personnel and customers in written and verbal formats. In most cases, will be the first GPEC contact with customer/end user. Train end users on operation of commissioned equipment.
  • Assist with verification of start-up readiness prior to beginning start up procedures.
  • Evaluate project conditions and complete tasks in a timely, efficient manner without supervision.
  • Modify equipment or fabricate products to meet job specific requirements. This may include assembly of, or assistance in assembly of loose items such as exhaust silencers, radiators, isolators, circuit breakers, etc. May also include changes to equipment wiring, voltage changes, etc.
  • Interpret project drawings and create as-built drawings for projects. Interpret project manuals.
  • Assist and review projects with project management staff and supervisor. Attend job site project review meetings as required.
  • Assist with installation and testing of Monitoring Systems including Modbus, conversion from Modbus to LonWorks or BacNet,
  • Project service reports and daily time entry are required.
  • Properly maintain all assigned company property and submit all expense records monthly.
  • Conduct all business and social activities in a manner which reflects integrity and professional excellence.
  • Attend Training courses related to job positions as required.

EDUCATION:

The candidate must be a high school graduate with 5 years of relevant work experience. A Technical College graduate in diesel or electrical technology MAY offset the work experiences below by 2 years.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

External Candidates :

The candidate must have a minimum of 5 years direct experience with generator packages, switchgear, and Automatic Transfer Switches.

Internal Candidates :

Must be a "top level" GPEC EPG Field Technician II performer for at least 3 years.

Candidates should be well versed in the electrical and mechanical aspects of power generation. Candidates must have knowledge of Generator and Utility Paralleling, PLC's, Electronic Engine Governors, Remote Monitoring Systems, Industrial Controls, and other Power Distribution equipment. The candidate should also have experience in diagnosing and repairing diesel and gas engine failures.

Additionally, candidates should be proficient with various types of electronic test equipment such as Oscilloscopes, Digital Voltage Meters, Phasing Indication Meters, Harmonic Distortion Meters, and Load Banks (resistive/reactive). Experience with Caterpillar Electronic Technician Software is a plus. Candidates must be able to understand electronic diagrams and schematics.

PHYSICAL:

Must be able to periodically lift and handle in a safe manner items that weigh up to 75 pounds.

OTHER:

  • Possess or immediately obtain related mechanical/electrical hand tools that meet the required company standards.
  • The candidate must have a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • The candidate must be able to drive a company vehicle daily and to be able to periodically take overnight business trips as requested.
  • Must have advanced basic PC skills, preferably with MS Excel, Word, Outlook and other Windows based programs.
  • Have excellent customer service and communication skills.

PREFERRED PREREQUSITES FOR POSITION:

Candidates must have experience in the following areas:

Diesel Engine Lubrication, Cooling, and Fuel Systems

Low and Medium Voltage System Applications

LP and Natural Gas Engine Fuel Systems, Including Electronic Controls and Regulators

Generator Monitoring and other Associated Remote Controls and Instrumentation

Engine and Generator Controls, Including On-Board Paralleling Controls.

Voltage Regulation and Control

Battery Charging Systems, Including Best Battery Selection Systems

Test Instrumentation and other Associated Electrical Devices

Load Bank Setup and Operation

Automatic Transfer Switch Operation
