Arthrex Manufacturing, located in Ave Maria, FL. is actively seeking a Prototype Machinist to produce prototype parts and components by programming, setting up, and operating manual and CNC mills, lathes, and other equipment. Second Shift - 2:30pm- 11:00pm, Monday - Friday

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that prototypes are made to achieve objectives, to specifications, and to high standards.
  • Ensures that all applicable operating policies and procedures are followed and adhered to.
  • Consults with Manufacturing and Design Engineers and other personnel regarding product information, product design and function, and material requirements for manufacture of the prototype.
  • Reviews drawings, written specifications, rough sketches and oral instructions to plan how to manufacture the prototype and determines sequence of operations. Plans machining and subsequent operations by studying previous or similar products produced, studying drawings, materials, specifications, reference planes, location of surfaces, and machining parameters; interprets geometric dimensions and tolerances.
  • Provides feedback and input on changes or ideas for improvement of tolerances, fits, and function.
  • Determines materials required and enters purchase requisitions in the SAP systems for procurement.
  • Selects tooling, work holding, resources required; produces CNC programs to machine the prototype.
  • Creates purchase requisitions in SAP for tooling, fixtures, work holding as required.
  • Operates Prototype Dept standard and specialized equipment and measuring tools to produce prototypes.
  • Completes dimensional and visual inspections as necessary to ensure that the prototypes were made to the drawing dimensions and the prototype is visually aesthetic and suitable for use.
  • Completes the prototype(s) to the customer's requirements and to the agreed delivery date.
  • Completes training to produce 3D printed parts, operates 3D printers, and communicates customer order requests and deliveries.
  • Maintains a high level of teamwork with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Production, and Prototype Dept. personnel to complete projects in a timely manner.
  • Maintains quality and safety standards and maintains supplies and equipment.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 10 years directly related training and/or experience of machine operating

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

  • Full working knowledge of machining properties of medical device materials including stainless steel, titanium, cobalt chrome and PEEK. Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Full working knowledge of SolidWorks CAD modeling skills.
  • Intermediate CNC programming skills.
  • Good blue print reading skills.
  • Proficient with measuring equipment and instruments.
  • General knowledge of tool life.
  • High sense of urgency to complete projects in a timely manner with tight deadlines.

Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:

Programming skills, setup and operation of CNC and manual machines.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to comprehend and apply mathematical principles to the degree required to perform the job based upon job requirements.

Language and Communication Skills:

Ability to comprehend and apply language skills to the degree required to perform the job based upon the job requirements listed above. Ability to verbally communicate ideas and issues effectively to other team members and management. Ability to write and record data and information as required by procedures.
