Financial Investigator (Finance)

The Financial Investigator will work at the direction of the Assistant Vice President of Deposit Operations. 

Job Functions:

  • Conduct complex financial investigations of suspected external and internal fraud incidents.
  • Researches and analyzes high risk transactions across all payment channels to identify possible cases of fraud.
  • Interacts with internal and external customers and supervisor to recommend and perform appropriate actions required to mitigate losses and to provide a positive customer experience.
  • Collaborate with Guaranty Bank & Trust employees including Legal, HR, and Compliance
  • Prepare reports documenting the results of complex investigations that may be used in a criminal prosecution
  • Develop evidence of fraudulent activity from interviews, document examinations, and witness statements
  • Documents and evaluates results of actions to support fraud trending and reporting and ensures that best practices are followed
  • Assist in the development and presentation of training programs for Guaranty Bank & Trust employees on Fraud Threats and Security Policies
  • Assist with Guaranty Bank & Trust's area Fraud Meetings
  • Provide input and recommendations for the evolving Guaranty Bank & Trust prevention strategy
  • Conduct data analysis to identify high-risk fraud issues
  • Work with other employees to enter and track investigative developments
  • Contact with Federal, State & Local Law Enforcement Agencies
  • Develop and maintain extensive contacts in the financial industry, and participate in security industry groups
  • Exercise a great amount of independent decision making and act as a subject matter expert on fraud risks and business processes.
  • Determine and propose next action based on research results to mitigate fraud losses.
  • Coordinate efforts between the fraud prevention, and other areas to reduce financial and reputational risks.
  • Work with the management, corporate security and/or corporate counsel on restricted confidential topics.
  • Conduct other investigations as assigned.
  • Complying with privacy policies and procedures to maintain customer confidentiality and information protection.
  • Comply with all federal, state and local regulatory rules and regulations governing financial institutions, as well as all company policies and procedures.
  • Perform any additional duties and tasks assigned by management.
  • Complete and pass all required regulatory compliance training as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree is preferred; in finance, accounting, criminal justice, law, or in a related field or 3+ years of law enforcement or financial industry experience
  • Previous experience in conducting financial investigations
  • Expertise in analyzing data to identify key patterns and trends
  • Have industry-specific knowledge regarding common tools and techniques utilized to investigate fraudulent activities
  • Ability to work independently with a strong sense of personal accountability
  • Effective business writing skills and experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal effectively with senior level management
  • Expertise in analyzing data to identify key patterns and trends
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Possible courtroom testimony
  • Assist with Subpoena records

Experience

Required
  • 1 year(s): Previous experience in conducting financial investigations
  • 3 year(s): Law enforcement or financial industry experience

Education

Preferred
  • Bachelors or better in Criminal Justice or related field
