Your Role:

Elanco Animal Health is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Sustainability Project Analyst with a strong focus on ruminant operations to join our growing team. This critical role will contribute to both innovation/development of new programs and the operation of commercialized livestock sustainability programs. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of agricultural sustainability, carbon markets, and emissions quantification and measurement strategies combined with an understanding of dairy and beef production systems, nutritional principles. This role will require the candidate to able to translate their production system knowledge into program requirements (methodological, IT, and operational) as well as directly supporting producers in meeting those program requirements once operationalized. This role requires a proactive individual who can work independently and collaboratively to address complex challenges, contribute to strategic decision-making, and support the global expansion of our sustainability initiatives.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Innovation (50%): Support the technical design and development of measurement, quantification, monitoring, reporting and verification components of new ruminant sustainability programs.
    • Quantification, Measurement, and Monitoring: Collaborate with Technical Consulting teams to build and maintain credible emissions quantification approaches. Build quantification tools for use in internal analysis. Support writing and documentation of methodologies and SOPs as needed. Develop and refine data models to assess environmental impacts and identify opportunities for improvement. Evaluate and recommend software solutions to optimize data integration and analysis.
    • Feed & Feed Ingredient Emissions Quantification: Provide recommendations and expertise related to feed ingredient emissions factors, databases, and lifecycle analyses. Provide recommendations for incorporation into quantification approaches. Support Operations team in mapping feed ingredients and developing related SOPs.
    • Market Landscape: Maintain knowledge and relationship with existing quantification approaches and models used in livestock systems (FARM ES, CoolFarm Tool). Monitor and assess updates to key reference / source material and recommend update of tools as appropriate (e.g. IPCC, EPA, USDA, IDF, GRSB, relevant methodologies & industry guidance). Evaluate new tools and complementary software systems.
    • Monitoring and Reporting: Leverage operational and scientific knowledge to contribute to requirements gathering and build out of monitoring and reporting platform. Partner with UpLook operations team to build requirements and feature roadmaps.
    • Project Management: Support project management, develop project plans as needed.
    • Strategic Decision Making: Contribute technical expertise to key decisions regarding process scalability, sustainability data utilization, and overall sustainability strategy. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to prioritize initiatives across species and regions.
    • Global Collaboration: Support the global expansion of sustainability initiatives by adapting data analysis and modeling approaches to diverse production systems and regulatory environments. Contribute to the development of training materials and resources for international stakeholders. Provide training and deployment support of UpLook to technical teams in new geographies.
  • Operations (50%): Support successful implementation of commercialized sustainability programs. Work directly with customers to solve complex data and technical challenges.
    • Customer and Internal Team Enablement: Gather customer insights to continuously improve tools and resources. Develop and deliver training programs to customers and internal teams on utilizing sustainability tools and interpreting data. Provide ongoing support to internal teams with data management and interpretation as needed.
    • Data Analysis & Modeling: Analyze complex farm/operational level datasets related to ruminant operations, including feed management, animal performance, and manure management systems. Support ingredient mapping and translation of farm records to quantification models.
    • Calculator & Software Expertise: Troubleshoot complex issues, respond to inquiries from third-party users, and support operations team in providing best customer experience through data collection and MMRV processes. Maintain and contribute to the continuous improvement of tools to execute modeling and calculations (e.g. in Excel, Stella, existing UpLook platform).
    • Practice Change and Sustainability Systems Expertise: Serve as a subject matter expert on ruminant sustainability, providing guidance and support to internal teams and external stakeholders. Address complex questions and scenarios related to operations, feed formulations, and manure management best practices. Develop training materials and resources to enhance internal understanding of sustainability data and tools.

What You Need to Succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Education: MS in Animal Science, Animal Biology, or a related field.
  • Required Experience: Deep understanding ruminant sustainability, life cycle assessments, and ruminant production systems.
  • Knowledge of ruminant nutrition (both dairy and beef), manure management systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop project management skills and communicate key timelines and deliverables across teams.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Understanding of carbon markets and carbon project design.
  • Fluency in English required; proficiency in other languages (e.g., Spanish, Portuguese) is a plus.

What You Need to Have a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • PhD in Animal Science, Animal Biology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in sustainability, agriculture, research, or data analysis.
  • Experience with feed software and data integration.
  • Familiarity with dairy and feedlot/beef production systems.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training programs.
  • Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS, SAS) and data modeling tools.
