Transportation Director (Finance)

DESCRIPTION

The Transportation Director will oversee the daily management, operations, and business development for the roadway and bridge departments of the Louisville, KY Office. This role involves leading a team of engineers and designers in the design and plan preparation for a variety of transportation improvement projects for both public and private clients in Kentucky, as well as forging partnership and teaming with surrounding Michael Baker Offices and consultant teaming partners. Projects may include highways, roadways, bridges, traffic systems, transit, aviation, and more. The Director will also focus on overall growth and development, as well as maintaining positive client relationships.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee department projects to ensure they meet agreed-upon scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Lead, assign, and review the work of the project delivery team, providing technical guidance and oversight for transportation project designs.
  • Ensure department compliance with quality management and quality assurance practices.
  • Coach, develop, and mentor staff, attracting and retaining highly talented transportation professionals.
  • Coordinate business development activities to support overall growth objectives, including project pursuits, client outreach, marketing, teaming arrangements, capture planning, proposal development and review, and interview preparation and delivery.
  • Lead strategic planning and build relationships with key client decision-makers, staying ahead of upcoming project advertisements and changes within client organizations.
  • Be an active and visible member of the Kentucky transportation industry through professional organization involvement.
  • Maintain and enhance existing client relationships, generate additional opportunities with current clients, and develop new clients. Monitor client satisfaction both internally and externally.
  • Coordinate with Great Lakes Region transportation leadership on resource planning, business development, and project execution.
  • Serve as a project manager on multi-discipline transportation design projects.
  • Monitor and control the department's annual operating budget.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field (Master's Degree is a plus).
  • Kentucky Professional Engineer's (PE) license.
  • 25+ years of transportation design experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Experience with KYTC is required and Design-Build project experience is a plus.
  • The ideal candidate will have established client and colleague relationships at the executive level at KYTC and FHWA agencies, and lead proposal efforts.
  • An ability to apply technical expertise in the development of major transportation proposals and pursuits.
  • Experience with strategic planning for long term business plans, including goal measurement to achieve engagement, capture planning and leadership of strategic pursuits.
  • Knowledge of financial aspects of the engineering business, demonstrated new work added and measured goals to achieve.
  • A solid understanding of Kentucky's Road Fund and operating budgets, the funding process and how they are allocated.
  • Experience with both design/bid/build and design/build, leading client engagement meetings, strategy projects and industry associations.
  • Self-motivated with solid business experience and understanding of cross selling and multi-model transportation including highway, bridges, aviation, rail, and transit.
  • Strong time management skills, the ability to multitask and prioritize competing project obligations.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and mentoring skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including proposal writing, presentation skills, public speaking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong track record of successful project delivery.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and manage multiple tasks.
  • Drive to be a leader within the company and the professional community.
  • Strong engineering judgment with a commitment to quality and financial excellence.
  • Team player with strategic thinking skills, a passion for mentoring junior staff, and a genuine enjoyment of the work.
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency

COMPENSATION

The approximate compensation range for this position is $129,602 to $202,428. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
