Senior Ecologist (Finance)

Role description:

Arcadis seeks a Senior Ecologist to join our Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) Ecology Support Services team as a Special Projects Team Leader. Our team is known for innovation and outstanding client service and will continue to build on these values. This is a unique opportunity for a dedicated, full-time role managing a team of ecologists responding to under construction and emergency project needs, compliance issues, and ongoing program level Ecology Initiatives.

Role accountabilities:

  • Manage a team of GDOT ecologists to ensure timely and quality completion of the following technical and administrative tasks:
    • Complete reviews of under construction plan revisions and associated ecology reporting and environmental permitting requirements.
    • Respond to emergency projects and complete required agency coordination, reporting, and permitting
    • Assist the GDOT Environmental Compliance Bureau and Construction Office with compliance issues.
    • Review Environmental Special Provisions and commitments included in contractor bid packages, and coordinate with GDOT Offices and regulatory agencies, as needed.
    • Assist with management of Environmentally Sensitive Area identification, maintenance, and/or protection
    • Ecology submittals inbox monitoring and assignment
    • Complete reporting for Section 7 Endangered Species Act consultation (Joint Coordination Procedures) and Section 404 Clean Water Act permitting (Local Coordination Procedures)
  • Develop guidance documents for the GDOT Office of Environmental Services and other GDOT offices, as needed.
  • Review proposed soil borrow pit locations to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal environmental rules and regulations
  • Manage consultants and partner agencies/organizations for plant conservation and migratory bird protection

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, natural resource management, or environmental science/engineering/planning/management.
  • 10 or more years' experience completing ecology special studies on behalf of GDOT including wetland/stream delineation, protected species survey, Section 7 Endangered Species Act consultation, Section 404 Clean Water Act permitting, and Georgia buffer variance applications.
  • Experience working with regulatory agencies responsible for oversight of federally funded transportation projects in Georgia.

Key Skills and Attributes:
  • Be highly organized, responsive, work well under tight deadlines, and have strong technical writing and verbal communication skills
  • Experience managing multiple, concurrent project tasks, meetings, and schedules; and communicating effectively with multi-disciplinary project teams and regulatory agencies.
  • Proven experience delivering complex GDOT ecology reports and permit applications
  • Must work well in a collaborative environment

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in biology, ecology, or a natural resources field of study.
  • Previous experience managing staff completing GDOT ecology special studies or special projects (i.e., under construction/emergency projects)
  • Demonstratable proficiency with GDOT Plan Development Process PDP, TPro, and Primavera P6

We offer nine paid holidays and 20 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $130,000. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
