Position: Quality Control Physical Analyst

Reports to: Quality Control Manager

Shift: 7:00am-3:30pm

Pay: $23-28/hr

What you'll be contributing:

  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Performs all daily physical/chemical tests in accordance with ASTM or other appropriate requirements.
  • Analyzes results given by Quality Control Technicians.
  • Performs testing and analysis on samples from other plants.
  • Performs analyses of raw materials and fuels.
  • Maintains adequate supply of all necessary materials.
  • Ensures lab equipment and environment meets specifications and calibrates lab equipment to ASTM standards.
  • Operates, calibrates and performs minor repairs on laboratory and field testing equipment when necessary.
  • Ensures Quality Control Manager is fully informed on all quality and deviation issues.
  • Maintains accurate, thorough and legible records of all test results.
  • Understands and demonstrates knowledge and understanding of all quality calculations.
  • Analyzes coal samples for fineness and moisture.
  • Maintains accurate records in designated log books and locations for all testing performed and adjustments made.
  • Performs additional non-routine testing for research when necessary.
  • Responsible for housekeeping and clean-up of immediate work areas and sample areas or in other areas in conjunction with assigned duties.
  • Responsible for documentation associated with job duties.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor

To succeed in this position, you will need:

  • High school graduation or equivalent is required
  • Associates degree in related field is preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of job related formal training
  • Minimum 2 years of job related work experience
  • Skills in basic applied mathematics and chemistry.
  • Strong reading, comprehension and documentation skills.
  • Ability to read and understand warning labels, instructions, signs and similar information. Knowledge of and ability to comply with ASTM standards and testing procedures.
  • Ability to perform necessary mathematical functions and calculations.
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with ASTM standards and testing procedures.
  • Ability to understand and describe the purpose of all required testing.
  • Knowledge and ability to perform measurement conversions, as well as an understanding of volume and area measurements.
  • Must successfully complete on-the-job training provided by designated supervision or otherwise qualified individuals.
  • Ability to accurately and effectively read gauges and dials and use a manometer, x-ray fluorescence analyzer, particle size analyzer, compression machine, mixer, and autoclave.
  • Ability to use a computer for record keeping and calculations. Must be familiar with spreadsheet and word processing software.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, lift objects up to 80 pounds, and perform repetitive motions such as lifting, pulling, pushing, and bending.
  • Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc. Willingness to learn, training will be provided.

What to expect in a cement environment :

Work to be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant. Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise requires compliance with specified safety guidelines and procedures. Exposure to high elevations of up to 250 feet in height. Exposure to all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure.
