Supervisor, Tube Mills-2nd Shift (Manufacturing)

Duties:

  • At all times, demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards.
  • Knowledge and use of safety and personal protective equipment required of everyone working on the tube mill.
  • Serve as a resource for operating crews including operator training, change over processes, inventory, critical spares, and tooling maintenance.
  • Give direction and guidance to the Production Team regarding the production schedule. 
  • Work with the Production Coordinator about travelers, schedule changes, and steel issues.
  • Direct downtime issues, improve 5S and the cleanliness of our department.
  • Ability to monitor and adjust tube mill and all auxiliary equipment for maximum efficiency and productivity as needed.
  • Help troubleshoot material and machine issues with all tube mills. 
  • Inspect materials, products, or equipment to detect defects and malfunctions. 
  • Work with maintenance on mill issues and timelines for equipment to be returned to service.
  • Work with Mill Manager and day shift Supervisor on other mill component needs and repairs.
  • Give feedback to Tooling Technician regarding tooling needs for each mill. Report tooling issues.
  • Help develop ways to improve tooling change times through prebuilt items for changeovers, methods, and improved practices.
  • Direct daily checks, Help maintain coolant levels, and issues with coolant systems.

Report issues with inventory of mill components including Impeders, ferrite, scarfing tools(id/od), mill fluids, bearings, cut off blades,  etc.

  • Perform regular quality checks on finished products to ensure adherence to specifications.
  • Work with Quality and TM Management to implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Direct any PDI or offline quality inspections when necessary.
  • Dependability-Commits to long hours of work when necessary to reach goals as needed. 
  • Ability to meet quality and productivity standards.
  • Recommend personnel actions such as hiring and promotions. Discipline or recommend discipline as needed. 
  • Interpret specifications, blueprints, job orders, and company policies and procedures for workers. 
  • Facilitate collaboration throughout the department amongst all crews.
  • Recommend or implement measures to motivate employees and to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality, and efficiency. 
  • Coach employees in weak areas of their performance; council and correct behaviors not conducive with a safety-first culture.
  • Help develop ways to reduce downtime and improve yields.
  • Ability to follow the direction and instructions of department Manager as well as the Management Team. 
  • Maintain ISO, ASTM, and Customer dictated standards.
  • Operate Tube mills if needed.
  • Understand the basics of each piece of support equipment on each mill and the ability to run said equipment is necessary.
  • Learn and understand the procedures of how to use MAJIK and Made to Manage. 
  • Ensure Operator are entering downtime into MAJIK.
  • Review shift paperwork for errors and correct. Coach operators on how to better capture downtime.
  • Work with Tube Mill Manager on balancing Vacation coverage of employees. 
  • Cover safety topics and give meetings on a weekly basis.
  • Direct employees in 5s. and preventative maintenance during changeovers and down time.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates required skills with the ability to share expertise with others.
  • 3 years of direct experience in the steel tube or pipe industry preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and hit deadlines regularly.
  • Knowledge and ability to  set up and operate carbon tube mills is required.
  • Must have reading, writing, simple math skills, and basic understanding of computers.
  • Must have excellent communication skills with a high degree of attention to detail.
