Research & Development Engineer (Architecture)

The Research and Development Engineer will conduct, assess, and disseminate applied research in the development of new wire products and processes.
Education & Experience Requirements
· Bachelor's degree in scientific discipline such as Materials Science, Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry, required.
· Advanced degree in relevant field, preferred.
Job Responsibilities
· Manage customer-driven research and development opportunities, as well as internal development.
· Present technological capabilities to market through conference presentations and manuscripts.
· Use fundamental materials science, engineering and metallurgy to develop new wire materials and processes for the medical device market.
· Optimize alloy formulations, processes, and product applications.
· Perform complex processing experiments and analyze the projects/studies.
· Research and adapt to new technologies, new designs of experiments and new laboratory techniques.
· Write experimental results and technical reports to be published to the internal Wiki database, submitted for Invention Disclosure, and presented occasionally at group staff and/or engineering meetings.
· Interface with other engineering personnel as well as off-site R&D departments and engineering including the Irish facility, production, laboratories, vendors, etc.
· Work with process and/or product engineers and the Sales Department to transfer new technologies to full production mode.
· Perform other duties as requested by management.
Skills Needed
· Must be able to carry out experiments autonomously and be capable of self-checking for completeness and accuracy of work produced.
· Good oral and written communication skills.
· Strong interest in laboratory research and metals characterization techniques.
· Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
· Good computer skills, such as MS office.
· Good mathematical computer skills, such as Mathematica, Mathcad, Minitab.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
· Office atmosphere in a fast-paced production environment.
· Travel to other facilities will be necessary at times.
· International Travel may be necessary.
Must be able to access all areas of operation, including second floors
