Day Residential Mentor (Personal Services)



The Day Residential Mentor serves as a presence in the residence halls promoting a safe, secure, and healthy environment.  This person will primarily be the first point of contact for students, parents and staff in each dorm.    

Position Responsibilities 

  • Actively supervise, engage with, and promote social growth and inclusion among students.  Serve as a responsible, adult presence, providing guidance and support in the residence halls for student-athletes.
  • Enforce policies and procedures ensuring that the student-athlete code of conduct is being maintained
  • Promote a positive healthy environment for the student-athletes
  • Maintain the residential hall, including room checks and head count
  • Be aware of student-athletes' daily schedules
  • Assist leadership with various projects
  • Design and implement residence hall programming as needed
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and business ethic codes
  • Other duties as assigned  

Operations 

  • Monitor students in dorms and throughout campus, including wake up schedules
  • Perform regular walkthroughs and inspections of the residence halls working with maintenance, accommodations, and other departments to coordinate and direct upkeep requests
  • Coordinate with safety and security staff to ensure the security of students and residence halls
  • Assist with housing process including check in/out, early arrivals and opening/closing of residence halls
  • Attend and contribute to department meetings
  • Attend and contribute to general planning for Academy and summer camp programs 

Communication

  • Communicate openly and regularly with students and parents/guardians.  Act as first point of contact for parents and students during the day.  Problem solved and address concerns as needed.
  • Take detailed notes and communicate areas of note or concern effectively with the assigned mentor and appropriate leadership
  • Communicate and follow up on conduct expectations of all student-athletes when applicable
  • Communicate and enforce appropriate disciplinary actions for violations
  • Carry out emergency response and crisis management plans for various situations including weather, lockdown, student illness, injury, etc.
  • Build positive relationships and collaborate with departments including sports, academics, health services for student-athlete's development 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Required Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Education, Psychology, Sports Management, or related area 

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Must possess good judgment and sensitivity relating to students of various backgrounds
  • Ability to handle challenging situations professionally and with sensitivity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent guest service skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to juggle and prioritize multiple projects effectively
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced setting
  • A superior work ethic
  • Desire to work collaboratively with colleagues 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills 

  • Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Sports Management, or related area
  • Experience in education, sports or related area
  • Experience as collegiate athlete
  • Experience with residential life in a boarding school environment and/or summer camps
  • Experience with working with students grades 6 to 12
  • Experience in counseling, crisis response, and mediation
  • Experience in a high-pressure, academic/performance setting
  • First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Proficient with computers and computer systems
  • Bilingual
