Overview:

Rice Athletics is currently seeking a motivated Marketing Assistant to join our team in a temporary, hourly role. This role presents a unique opportunity to contribute to the marketing and promotional efforts of Rice University Athletics, enhancing fan and student engagement and supporting the overall mission of our department. The ideal candidate will possess a strong passion for sports marketing, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to fostering a positive fan experience.

Workplace Requirements:

This position is exclusively on-site, necessitating all duties to be performed in-person on campus during both regular office hours, mornings, nights, and weekends as team schedule requires. This position may require occasional travel. Per Rice policy 440 , work arrangements may be subject to change.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in sports management, communications, marketing, public relations, or related field.
  • One year of related experience.
  • Strong written, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Preferences:
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite, Slack, Eloqua and Canva.
  • Experience running marketing initiatives in a game day environment.
  • Experience working first-hand with coaching staffs and/or Directors of Operations.

Essential Functions:
  • Collaborate with the Director and Assistant Director of Marketing to develop and execute comprehensive marketing plans for various sports programs.
  • Serve as the primary marketing contact for designated sports teams, overseeing administrative marketing tasks, coordinating with coaches and staff, and executing promotional campaigns, marketing plans and run-of-shows.
  • Serve as the secondary marketing contact for designated sports, facilitating with in-game environment and fan engagement activities including but not limited to running music, writing and calling scripts, executing sponsored promotions, and coordinating special recognitions.
  • Collaborate with campus departments to discover better ways to partner with the campus community at large and contribute to a vibrant Rice culture.
  • Serve as the primary mascot liaison for on and off campus events.
  • Serve as the primary charitable donation request liaison for Rice Athletics.
  • Serve as the secondary contact for Rice Athletics Kids Club initiatives.
  • Aid in the management of Marketing Interns, including recruitment, hiring, training, office hours oversight, and gameday leadership responsibilities.
  • All other duties as assigned.
