Staff Resident Engineer (Finance)

Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a Staff Resident Engineer, with 5+ years of construction experience, to join our Resilience Water team in Paramus, New Jersey.

As a Staff Resident Engineer, you will utilize your experience and technical knowledge of construction to assist with the management of both large and small construction projects. Typical project types are construction within the water and wastewater industry and include civil works, pump stations, water main, both drinking and wastewater treatment plants, above and below ground structures, new infrastructure, upgrades, special inspections, energy projects, buildings and building systems, as well as environmental remediation projects. You will also help meet client expectations through construction oversight, inspection, monitoring, and reporting. Opportunities to assist with project pursuits and designs within the municipal and industrial markets of this region to help build and grow our practice.

Role accountabilities:

As a Staff Resident Engineer, you will provide onsite inspection and engineering services through the project construction phase, up to and including start up and owner acceptance. Work includes daily construction activities, managing contracts, inspecting work for conformance, maintaining QA/QC requirements and approaches, meeting with and providing clients with regular progress updates. You will monitor contractor's performance of work, conformance with the contract documents, overall site safety, stakeholder coordination and special inspections. Relay any issues related to these to project or projects to the Arcadis team and client, in addition to tracking any changes or deviations from plans.

Client Management / Development activities will include managing overall client expectations, assisting with project pursuit efforts, and identification of new projects to pursue. You will interact directly with client's at times to assure their level of confidence and satisfaction. You will assist in the review of drawings and construction methods, assist in future proposal development, scopes of work, and provide constructability input and experience to design changes during construction. Working with Project Managers to plan, manage, execute, and deliver various engineering projects on time, on budget, and to the performance expectations of the client will be another key part of your responsibilities.

You will support the work of others, including mentoring entry-level staff and assisting senior designs with information from the field. Utilizing knowledge of cost trends, change management, claims, and other construction-related matters to ensure success of project delivery while maintaining Arcadis' standards and specifications will be important in your role.

In addition, you will:

  • Lead and conduct progress, project safety, scheduling, and other contract administration meetings with client, contractor, local agencies, and the community.
  • Value engineering such as recommending improvements to save project costs and/or shorten project schedules.
  • Review and process contractor submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, including negotiation and processing of change orders.
  • Other responsibilities will include acting as liaison to design staff to obtain field information to answer design questions and respond to contractor RFIs.
  • Manage and travel to project sites during construction for client meetings, site visits and to conduct construction oversight activities throughout the construction phase. Projects will range from singular large scale to managing multiple small scall project tasks.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction, or a closely related field of study.
  • 5 years of construction experience as a Resident Engineer or Construction Manager or Senior Inspector (relevant experience preferred).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional credentials, such as PE or FE or working towards obtaining a PE
  • Construction-related credentials, such as Certified Construction Manager (CCM)
  • Construction-related training such as NYSDOH Asbestos Project Monitor, OSHA 30-Hour Supervisor and OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER
  • Experience managing construction budgets and schedules, construction estimating, change order negotiation, and bidding
  • Active participation in regional or national professional association(s)
  • Experience with Primavera P6 Professional Project Management and/or Microsoft Project and the Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $113,000 - $140,000. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
