DECKHAND (Transportation)

TheDeckhandposition assists with the safe, timely, and efficient operation of a marine vessel by performing a variety of vessel-based tasks at the direction of the vessels Captain or other Master.

The person in this position will:
Prioritize safety above all else, including being knowledgeable of and accurately following company policies and proceduresCooperatively and professionally follow orders from vessel Captain/Master (and his/her relief)Create a positive work environment for all crew members onboard the vesselCommunicate clearly, effectively, and professionally with vessel crew, operations teams, and corporate office teamEffectively work with vessel crew to complete customer jobs in a timely and efficient manner

The person in this position can expect to participate in the following types of job duties:
Operational Duties
Making up the lines for vessel handlingAssisting the vessel in making dockings, sailings, or shiftingStanding lookoutMaking up lines, line handling (including splicing and throwing lines)Maintaining radio watch when required.
Maintenance Duties
Chipping and painting vesselOther equipment maintenance as directed.
Housekeeping Duties
General Sanitation duties inside and outside the vessel as directed;Cleaning or scouring the vessel;Cleaning quarters, including personal quarters;Cleaning the wheelhouse and galley;Cleaning the heads and companionways;Prepares meals as directed by the Master of the vessel, and;Performing other any reasonable cleaning chores as directed by the Master.
Safety Duties
Reporting any hazardous or unsafe condition to the master and making on-the-spot corrections when capable.

Work EnvironmentPhysical DemandsTravel RequirementsWork ScheduleDeckhands work on floating vessels and are regularly required to perform manual labor outside in all weather conditions year round. Some work may be performed in vessel cabin as needed.Must be able to crouch and stoop to get into areas with restricted headroom, to climb ladders and to lift and carry 50-75 lbs. There may be exposure to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels and potentially hazardous equipment. The ability to board vessels underway in routine sea conditions is necessary.Deckhands typically depart from a designated dock and travel onboard the vessel for the duration of their shift. Travel from one port location to another may be required from time to time and land transportation is provided by the company when needed.Deckhands work 7-days on/7-days off schedule, working a 12-hour sift each day while onboarding the vessel. Deckhands may work a "day" or "night" shift.

Requirements: You must have a Driver License and TWIC in order to apply for this position.
