VP, Operational Risk Management, Emerging Markets (Finance)

We are seeking a Vice President, Operational Risk Management to join the Emerging Markets regional risk and compliance team. This position, which reports to the Chief Compliance and Risk Officer for Emerging Markets, is primarily responsible for driving strategic risk management initiatives as well as providing second line operational risk advisory support and coverage for Prudential's international insurance businesses across Emerging Markets.  

Core Responsibilities: 

Risk's mission is to enable intelligent management decisions to help drive exceptional business, customer, and financial outcomes over the long term. As the second line of defense to the business, this position is responsible for providing strong leadership and direction in developing and maintaining an effective and efficient operational risk management program and fostering an intelligent risk taking culture. This includes providing risk guidance/expertise, assistance and advisory support to business leaders on managing operational risks in accordance with the Company's ORM framework; ensuring that operational risks are properly identified, assessed, monitored, controlled and reported; collaborating as a trusted advisor with key business and functional stakeholders to resolve complex risk issues; fostering proactive risk management aimed at achieving successful business outcomes.  

This position requires strong leadership and influence, sound judgment, project/process management and technical acumen. This position also provides a tremendous opportunity to interact with senior management and business leadership as well as Audit, Law, Compliance and Risk Management counterparts across the company.

The current employee work arrangement for this position is Hybrid and requires your on-site presence on a reoccurring basis as determined by your business. Your manager will provide additional details relative to the specific number of days you are expected to be on-site.  

What you'll do: 

  • Promote and build a robust risk management culture through strong engagement and relationships with Emerging Markets business leadership and local risk teams. 

  • Provide Emerging Markets business leadership with proactive operational risk advisory support, assessments and partnership on core business activities and strategic/new business initiatives, including new distribution methods, products and partnerships. 

  • Lead the execution of regional operational risk management strategic initiatives and projects across the Emerging Markets region. 

  • Apply sound judgment and effective challenge in the evaluation of risks and controls, including communication and escalation. 

  • Engage on challenging, sensitive, and/or urgent risk issues, including providing guidance, facilitating after-action reviews and advising on the development and implementation of action plans to enhance controls. 

  • Advise local risk management teams across Prudential's wholly owned businesses in Emerging Markets on best practices in operationalizing and executing Prudential's ORM framework, governance and requirements. 

  • Support upskilling of local risk management teams and provide input on local risk management talent and resource/skillset needs. 

  • Engage with risk management teams in Prudential's minority owned / non-controlled joint ventures and strategic investments (to share information on Prudential's standards, best practices and recommendations). 

  • Identify and report on regional risk trends/insights (including emerging risk) and partner with local risk management teams and/or business leadership on strategic approach for addressing business-specific or cross-regional risk drivers. 

  • Support risk governance, including developing materials and/or presenting to senior management, risk committees, and other forums. 

  • Proactively partner with Risk Management counterparts across Prudential to share best practices and contribute to building a risk management community to influence consistency and effectiveness of operational risk practices company wide. 

  • Advance the use of data and analytics, as well as provide tools, resources, capabilities, subject matter expertise, and knowledge sharing, to mature local risk management governance/programs and enable local risk teams. 

  • Actively participate in external industry peer groups and forums for benchmarking and to keep abreast of industry best practices 

 

What you'll need: 

  • Bachelors degree required 

  • 10+ years of relevant business, risk, or control function experience 

  • Thought leadership and risk oversight in core operational risk domains (for example, information protection, vendor governance and model risk), as well as strong understanding of the insurance business and industry  

  • Superior relationship management skills with the ability to partner and build professional relationships in a cross-functional environment 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of collaborative teams to deliver high quality work products 

  • Proactive, driven professional with the ability to strategize, influence, and execute across a broad set of stakeholders and broad body of work 

  • Clear and effective written communication and presentation skills 

  • Excellent coordination skills, including project / process management 

  • An understanding of how operational risk interacts with market, credit and/or insurance risk and fits within the overall risk governance framework. 

 

It would be a plus if you had:  

  • Experience working in a global organization and working with and/or in emerging market jurisdictions 

  • Familiarity with financial risks, including credit, market, and insurance risk 

 

What we offer you:

Prudential is required by state specific laws to include the salary range for this role when hiring a resident in applicable locations. The salary range for this role is from $185,100.00 to $250,500.00. Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills.
