SAN / Server Administrator - Murfreesboro, TN (Project Management)



Job Description Summary

Administers and maintains the Credit Union's server infrastructure and equipment; participates in day-to-day technical installation, administration, troubleshooting and maintenance of systems, tools, software and applications to ensure a stable server and storage environment with no unplanned downtime; assists in researching, evaluating and recommendation of new equipment and systems; manages backup, archive and restore systems; and performs related duties as assigned or requested. SAN/Server Administrator is distinguished from Senior SAN/Server Administrator by the latter position having the responsibility for performing more complex system administration duties requiring a detailed knowledge of the necessary servers and operating systems in the physical and virtual environments.

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs systems administration functions for enterprise-level Windows and Linux servers; Installs, configures and maintains assigned servers and operating system software in both physical and virtual environments, hardware, peripheral devices, SAN disk subsystems and arrays.
  • Performs administration of the VMWare virtual environment.
  • Performs administration of the SAN storage array, to include LUN configuration and storage growth trending metrics.
  • Monitors system alerts, events, changes and activities that may impact performance or security; researches, troubleshoots and resolves system errors, failures and other problems that may involve a combination of hardware, operating system, internally developed and vendor application software and database structure configuration, resource conflict and/or interoperating problems.
  • Installs and tests operating system patches, releases, upgrades and fixes; troubleshoots, researches, diagnoses and resolves issues which may arise
  • Installs fixes and tuning best practices to resolve problems and achieve optimal performance.
  • Performs hardware and software administration for the backup, archive and restore solution; reviews automated messages on a daily basis to ensure backup processes are completed successfully; researches and resolves error messages, disk failures and other problems; performs regular enterprise data backup coverage review and makes adjustments as required.
  • Validates disaster response and recovery procedures are followed to ensure RTO and RPO guidelines are met.
  • Works with departments and other technology stakeholders to evaluate the use of new technology to meet business process requirements; participates in the evaluation of new software and technologies to determine their functionality, interoperability, reliability and availability and supportability.
  • Documents and processes departmental work, including but not limited to; verifying for accuracy and completeness, performing research, scanning and filing documents and other materials, retrieving and releasing documents and records.
  • Performs specialized data entry to prepare a variety of standard materials, documents and reports; updates computer records and databases; completes and processes standard forms related to areas of responsibility.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Minimum Qualifications

Education Requirements

Required - 4 Year / Bachelors Degree - Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science or a closely related field.

Preferred - Microsoft Certified System Administrator VMWare Certification.

Experience Requirement

Required - 3 Years - Responsible systems administration experience in a complex multiplatform/server operating systems environment.

Required - Network experience with SAN, FIBRE and switched networks.

SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Windows and Linux operating system architectures, characteristics, components and commands applicable to enterprise information systems and multiple-platform operating systems; virtual machine (VMware) operating environments.
  • Data storage technology principles, practices, hardware, components and software including SAN environment.
  • Network architectures and theory and principles of network design and integration, including topologies and protocols..
  • Principles, practices, methods, tools and utilities of systems/network administration and maintenance, including configuration and performance tuning.
  • Enterprise backup management including hardware configuration, software configuration and reporting.
  • Principles and practices of disaster recovery.
  • Database management systems and software, including architectures, diagnostic tools, commands and utilities; tools and utilities used in monitoring and tuning database and application performance.
  • Independently perform routine to highly complex systems administration in a multiplatform and operating systems environment with a high degree of understanding of interoperating and integration issues.
  • Perform routine to moderately complex systems troubleshooting and tuning to resolve complex systems management, communication and interoperating problems.
  • Effectively apply internal and external customer service practices and processes to meet quality service standards and achieve member satisfaction.
  • Learn and apply information, on a wide range of Credit Union products, services and regulatory compliance requirements, in order to assess member situations and develop solutions.
  • Resolve problems utilizing advanced knowledge and experience.
  • Communicate in a professional manner and deliver information clearly and effectively. Actively listen to questions, opinions and ideas of others. Use tact and diplomacy in sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Use correct English including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Operate computers and use business software and other standard office equipment.
  • Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Set priorities and manage one's own time effectively.
