Communication Assistant - Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (Finance)

We are hiring for a Communication Assistant to join the team at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center UTHealth Houston Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. In this position, you will collaborate on executing communication projects within a comprehensive strategy aimed at driving engagement and building awareness of the Graduate School. The communication assistant will manage projects involving a variety of tasks related to internal and external communications across print and digital platforms including email, web content management and social media platforms.

Position Summary:

The communication assistant provides key support for the communications department at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center UTHealth Houston Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. We are seeking a team member to collaborate on executing communication projects within a comprehensive strategy aimed at driving engagement and building awareness of the Graduate School. The communication assistant will manage projects involving a variety of tasks related to internal and external communications across print and digital platforms including email, web content management and social media platforms.

Provides a broad range of communication support services.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Create and share compelling content that informs audiences, and highlights student and faculty research, honors, and accomplishments; student-centric activities; and staff announcements. This includes:
  • Organizing submitted announcements, writing and editing copy, creating graphics, production and distribution of the school's weekly internal e-newsletter.
  • Collaborating with the communications manager and departments/functional areas to plan stories and campaigns, schedule interviews, gather information, write, take photos, film and edit video, create graphics, proof, edit, post, and analyze content.
  • Managing some or all aspects of print projects including estimating, gathering content, writing, editing within publishing software, approvals, working with vendors to produce annual report, program fliers, signage, etc.
  • Assisting with advising, editing and layout of digital and print projects, such as the recruitment brochure, career development newsletter, and various alumni communications.
  • Maintaining the department database and records by entering and updating files and preparing reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

  • Knowledge of Adobe Pagemaker, Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator is preferred.

Minimum Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications or allied field.

Minimum Experience:
  • No experience necessary

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
